PARAPROFESSIONALS IN CLASSROOMS

Students with disabilities are successfully included in general education classrooms across the country. Part of their success comes from the help of paraprofessionals. Paraprofessionals are people who are trained aide who assists a professional person. A paraprofessional can be assigned to a teacher or even a classroom to assist students with special needs.

Having a parapro in a classroom allows more one on one time for the children. Children that have disabilities or even struggle with specific subjects would benefit with having that extra one on one time. One negative of having a parapro for just one child is that some do not help the child do the work. They simply do all the work for them or give the child the answers. On the other hand there are many perks to having a parapro. My brother has autism and his parapro's helped him learn to talk to other people. They helped him learn to carry on conversations, gain confidence when speaking, and they even taught him and corrected him to look people in the eyes when talking to someone.
