ABSTRACT

Not every child learns the same way. Some may be visual learners, verbal learners, or even physical learners. Children’s brains are unique in their own individual way, especially children with learning disabilities or even special ed. Children with learning disabilities and special ed can learn better some ways than others. Some of those children learn better with the help of a paraprofessional. While others learn better when they have mixed classroom, regular and special ed children are mixed. Some simply learn better with the help of a fidget toy. That could be an exercise balls, stress balls, or even a bouncy band that goes on chairs.

Working at my mentor ship has made me start planning what I want in my classroom and how I want to run my future classroom. Teaching children with special ed is challenging and the children themselves become frustrated fairly easily when they do not understand. Therefor in the future I plan on not having a mixed classroom. That way the students will not become frustrated as much. Along with not having a mixed classrooms, I plan on using extra teacher and paraprofessional in my classroom. That way there is more help for the students. Finally, I will definitely use fidget toys. The fidget toys help the children stay seated and not move around as much. The fidget toys also help the students stay on task by reducing the talking and interaction between other classmates.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I believe that children with disabilities should be in rooms with other special ed children. There should be paraprofessionals in the room to assist the teacher and the children. Along with the paraprofessionals in the classroom, I believe that teachers should have fidget toys in their class room. Fidget toys help the children learn and stay focused. I can say this from personal experience, I go everyday to our local elementary school and help out in the special ed classroom. In this room the children use bouncy seats, finger lights, and even bouncy bands that goes on the chairs. These fidget toys settle the children down and allows them to do their work.
